Parish Life News

See the Upcoming Events page for what's happening soon!

November 22, 2008 (11:00 A.M.) will be a day of GREAT CELEBRATION at St. Paul’s, for everyone in our parish, and for the entire Diocese of Western New York! One from among us, Dr. Daniel John Pinti, will be called forth to be ordained into the Sacred Order of Deacons in Christ’s One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Please mark the date on your calendar, and join with us as we celebrate this wonderful day in Dan’s life, with Maria, and their children Zachary, Rachel and John, and with the entire community which is our parish of St. Paul’s (Harris Hill).

The Town of Clarence will hold its Annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving service on Wednesday, November 26, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (6919 Transit Rd.) in Swormville. This year’s service is the closing event for the town’s Bicentennial Celebration.

We will not be holding a separate Thanksgiving service here at St. Paul’s. We do encourage you to join the rest of our community in this expression of all of our thanks.

Church Library News

There have been some changes in the realm of St. Paul’s library. They have occurred as a result of the need to empty, clean and repaint that entire area following our little plumbing problem. When it was time to put the room back together, quite a group of us showed up to lend a hand. As we dusted, sorted and reorganized the books we discovered that many of them were in very poor condition and really needed to be discarded. We also found that some of them didn’t truly fit a very small religious library as they were more in line with recreational reading. These titles were donated to a public library for their book sale. The remainder was rearranged in a very basic topical system, not an actual catalogue system. Hopefully we will all find it reasonably accessible.

This library includes several different versions of the Bible, some in other languages. It also includes titles related to the Anglican/Episcopal Church, some possible resources for our teachers, a few titles for young parishioners and some thought provoking spiritual reading. There are also a couple of Bible-based games that can be borrowed. With the exception of the very large and the very old Bibles, any of these books can be borrowed by anyone. To facilitate this, a red spiral notebook has been placed on a shelf to the right as you enter from the hall. If you wish to take a book with you just enter your name, the date and the title in the spaces provided. Upon returning the book, leave it next to the notebook and check off the ‘retrnd’ spot next to your name.

At this time, it if highly unlikely that there will be any extra funds to add to this collection. However, always being hopeful, anything is possible down the road. With that in mind, if there is a title or a topic that you would like to see included in the future, please make use of the back pages of that red notebook to let us know. In doing this, please be sure to give an age group for whom you feel it would be appropriate (e.g. young children, teens, adults).

All of that being said, please stop in and take a peek, and perhaps even a book.

Once again, we desperately seeking folks who are willing to be trained in one or another of the various lay ministries. If you are willing to become a reader, eucharistic minister, or some combination thereof (Note: This is especially needed for the 8:00 service!), please speak with Fr. Leon, or call the office at 632-8221. Prospective acolytes, please call Jean Stefanski at 741-9942. Those wishing to become ushers should speak with Marc Ziegler, who can be reached at 741-1149. In all cases, training will be provided. Thank you.

A recycling reminder: As your new phone books begin to arrive, please DO NOT put your old ones in the Paper Retriever bin. The ink in phone books does not recycle well, and we’ve been warned that phone books in the bin have the potential (like corrugated cardboard) to invalidate our entire pick-up that week. Thank you for assisting us in this area, and thank you for your continued support of our recycling program!
